Dave & Ed’s Canfield Swap Meet was held on Sept. 12-14. Over 30,000 car buffs, 2,400 vendors, 700 cars in the corral, and over 300 show cars made an appearance at this super auto event!
At a time when everyone is looking to clean out their garage before the winter months come, gear-heads are likely to find great bargains and deals on auto parts, tools, equipment, memorabilia, and just about anything out-of-the-norm that you can think of.
Some might like to quickly call these old parts “junk,” but there is an old saying that most of us hobbyists understand and take pride in knowing: “One man’s junk, is another man’s gold.”
When asked about the history of the event, Dave Ehret had this to say, “Throughout it’s 22-year history, Dave & Ed’s Swap Meet has brought enthusiasts, hobbyists and collectors alike together into a family-oriented atmosphere that promises to be one of the most-exciting events of the year.”
Since 1993, the Canfield Fairgrounds has been the host spot for the swap meet.
“Some of our employees have been with us for 22 years,” stated Ehret, “And when you have that kind of support, you can have very successful events.”
Probably one of the best features of the Dave & Ed’s Swap Meet is that participants can take advantage of the free pickup for hauling any parts that they buy back to their vehicles.
Another great feature of the swap meet is the car corral, which featured over 700 cars for the September meet.
Over 350 cars were sold during the weekend, which is an excellent rate of success!
“For only $20, you can have a space to sell your car at our swap meet, which means 30,000 people are going to see it. It’s a bargain,” Ehret excitedly explained.
With the price of admission only $5, an entry fee for the car corral only $20, and very reasonably-priced swap-meet spaces, Dave & Ed’s is the perfect place to come and take part in the hobby, as it grows larger each and every year.
All weekend long, mobs of parts-hunters swarmed through the gates, hoping to find that one last part to finish their ride for next summer’s cruise season.
We gave away thousands of magazines at the Auto Round-Up booth and met some very interesting fans of our publications, including Dave Giaco. Dave came just at the right time for our radio interview and had some great comments, “Auto Round-Up is my best friend. I buy two copies, one stays at home, and I take one to work. Auto Round-Up will make you spend money you don’t even have!”
Saturday night, my representative, C.T. Greenlief and I spotted a cruise at the Chili’s Restaurant just a few blocks from our hotel. We stopped by and visited with the Valley Cruzers and spoke with President Dick Frost. “All of our proceeds benefit Todd’s Children’s Hospital and we would like to thank Chili’s for their support.”
After taking photos of some of the wild rides and passing out magazines to all of the participants, we had a great evening out with the Dave & Ed’s crew.
Sunday’s highlights included a car show, where 300 cars were entered for a chance to win prizes. Some really great cars came out for a great day of fun and sunshine!
We were able to meet up with Tom Sondles of Tom Sondles Classic Parts. They sold many ‘55-’57 Chevy parts to some very happy customers all weekend long! To find out more about Tom Sondles, see their ad in this magazine or call 330-878-1957.
Rod and Denise of Hot Rod’s Classic Truck Parts were setup and sold hundreds of parts during the weekend for a successful outing. If you are interested in ‘48-’56 Ford parts and accessories, see their ad in Truck Round-Up Magazine or give these nice folks a call at 800-236-0046.
Cleveland Tire & Wheel were also at the show, and you should have seen the towers of tires stacked up into the sky! They must have sold thousands of tires that weekend! If you call Donnie, he’ll come out to your house and take all of the measurements necessary to give you the perfect fit for your vehicle. See their ad in this issue, or call them today at 440-479-4551.
What’s next on the Dave & Ed’s agenda? Why, it’s the Pro-Formance Meet which will be held on November 8-9 at the Stark County Fairground in Canton, OH.
“The Pro-Formance Meet is the biggest racer’s swap meet in the country. We have over 800 vendors with stuff for everything from drag cars to prostreet to micro-midgets and sprints,” described Ehret.
When asked about next season, Ehret had this to say, “Next season, we are going to mix up our schedule a little, so mark your calendars now!”
Indeed, the 2008 season will begin with the Canfield Swap Meet on May 2-4, July 18-20, and September 12-14. The Pro-Formance Meet will be held March 29-30 and November 8-9.
We would like to thank Dave, Ed, Valerie, Pat, Betty and Christen for their very generous hospitality, you guys are the best! Keep up the great work!
