WORLD OF WHEELS

World of Wheels Turns 30, Many Great Customs, and More Hooter’s Girls!

The World of Wheels turned 30 this past March, and proved to be not only a milestone legacy of it’s kind, but also a bridge for the future.

The 30th Annual Advance Auto Parts World of Wheels Show was held on Mar. 2-4 at Big Sandy Arena in Huntington, WV. This was another successful year filled with a great selection featuring antiques, classics, trucks, hot rods, motorcycles and lots of surprises and fun.

Known as West Virginia’s largest indoor car show, the World of Wheels has been a show that has evolved into a great family-oriented event that plays prelude to the old car hobby.

Advance Auto Parts is the lead sponsor for this fantastic event. Advance Auto Parts has been helping with sponsorship of the show for over a decade. The nation’s largest auto parts retailer is a caring sponsor and contributor to many car shows and non-profit organizations in the old hobby nationwide, and without the help of organizations such as these, many car clubs would not be able to host shows.

Over 15,000 folks came to see the 150-plus classics compete during the weekend.
Besides the quality of cars, many great surprises were inside of Big Sandy Arena (host site for the show) including: Dukes of Hazzard Stunt Man Russ “Phil” McCubbin and the General Lee, Marquis Porter (pop rock/rap star artist), and, of course, The Hooter’s Girls. We even ran into our old friend Chuck Runyon, from Classic Cars, who advertises his car lot in Auto Round-Up. If you want quality classic cars, give him a ring at 304-633-7768.

“Russ McCubbin, better known as ‘Phil’ in the hit TV-series Dukes of Hazzard, was a sensational hit attraction at the World of Wheels,” show organizer Richard Wheeler gladly stated.

Wheeler went on about the milestone marker of 30: “We started at the Fieldhouse 30 years ago and just had 49 cars. Now look, we’re up to over 150. It’s really amazing that I’m 66 and reliving my youth--I think I’m 25 again!”

The Wheeler family along with the Davis family (Earl and Jerry) do a fantastic job of organizing and hosting the greatest show in West Virginia.
