1966 Plymouth Sport Fury
1966 Plymouth Sport Fury by Greg Zyla
Q: I own a 1966 Plymouth Sport Fury with 65,000 miles. This car has been in the family since it was new and has a 383 cubic-inch engine, console automatic shift and bucket seats. It is in excellent shape, but needs a new paint job. What do you think it is worth? Is it worth spending the money on a paint job?
Thanks for your help. Gord M., Canada.
A: Gord, it may or may not be worth the cost of a good paint job as your Sport Fury is not really the most collectible of the 1966 Plymouth line. Your car may be worth in the neighborhood of U.S. $2,900 with the poor paint to a completely restored $9,500 in show condition. If your model is the convertible, the top price goes to $17,000 and painting it would be a definite yes. If you spend up to $2,500 on a paint job, you can expect to sell the coupe model of this car for up to U.S. $7,000 because of its low mileage and excellent mechanical condition. You may get more, you may get less.
