The David and Lois Kaiser Collections

The David and Lois Kaiser Collections by Yvette Vanderbrink

David and Lois Kaiser didn’t have to think twice when it came time to think of something for them to collect. They had to collect their namesake, of course. David and Lois Kaiser have been married for 51 years and enjoyed every minute of it. The Kaisers spent most of their time in Kansas, Iowa & Nebraska Area. David is a veterinarian and practiced for 12 years in Humeston, Iowa and was a Federal Meat Inspector from 1978 until his retirement in Jan. 1999. They loved the outdoors and had horses and collected and bought most of the Buggies and other driving equipment, being sold on the sale, from Nebraska and Kansas. They did lots of parades and the horses were also enjoyed by their 2 children, Tom and Valerie and grandchildren. They graduated from the horse power and what else to buy, but a Kaiser. They purchased a 1948 Kaiser in Hartford and that got David started. They loved collecting the Kaiser-Frazers and Henry J cars and taking them to meets. They purchased the majority of their cars from the South Dakota and Nebraska areas. They once took one of the cars to Colorado for a Kaiser-Frazer meet on a trailer. The truck pulling the trailer with the car broke down, but they called Dave’s brother Frank, unloaded the car, and took the beauty over the mountains and to the meet. The truck got hauled back home, but the car made the whole adventure with no problem. They loved driving them on Sunday drives and especially meeting other members from the Kaiser-Frazer club. They moved up to South Dakota in 1983 and a heavy snowstorm their first winter, started another collection, Cockshutt and Coop tractors. They needed it to get out of their new acreage purchase. The Kaisers loved going to auctions and spent many hours and miles collecting parts, cars, and other treasures. David did much of the restoration of his vehicles and even the upholstery. It was a hard decision, but due to health reasons, the Kaisers have decided to sell their collection of horse items, collector cars, tractors, antiques, and parts. David has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and the family is working to help him through the transitions.
