Car Hops Renae & Morgan with a 1949 Lincoln Custom

MAN-O-MAN this was unbelievably exciting and successful auto event! Scooter was invited by the owners of this publication so we could finally meet and also to hang out at their first-ever car event! I have to thank the Smiths from top to bottom and the employees they have for the kind acceptance I was given. We all know the names, but now I have the faces to go with them. Shaun Smith also gave me the VIP tour of the cool restored vintage building where it all happens for this publication. I met the “chili man” (ask, everyone knows him) and Susan, and OOPS! Dog gonnit…if I get started, I’ll mess up and leave someone out that deserves to be given credit for the good they do for the Auto Round-Up.

I’ll just say to Ron and Shaun Smith. WOW! It’s refreshing to see a father and son (plus other family members) successful, efficient and so friendly! I’m ready to pack my northern Michigan red neck hillbilly bags and become a Jane Lew person! OK, on with the event.

The many outstanding cars displayed at the very first Auto Round-Up Cruise-In in Jane Lew, West Virginia.

People came up and asked why Harv wasn’t there, and I even got asked for autographs and to have my picture taken with them or their car. Heck, Scooter even got a hug from a young car gal. Now that made old Scooter’s day, week and more! One guy that had a car there asked me if I would take his car out down a back road and do a burnout with it so he could take my picture ripping the tread off his ride! Loved his idea, but didn’t do it.

Scooter With Summer Knights Cruizin' Assocation's President Rodney Burkhammer

The food was excellent; the car hops were and are HOT! And the cars were HOT! Nearly 200 cars were parked there for the event! I saw and talked to guys and gals with every level of classy, Street Rods, lead sled customs, muscle cars, stock vintage cars and trucks and every owner and spectator was friendly and having a good time. It has to happen next year!

I also saw a George Barris look-a-like, a Richard Childress look-a-like, a Craig Parish (OLD 27 TOUR) look-a-like and the locally famous, Goldie Hawn look-a-like (Sharon Smith).

Car Hop Tabatha by Roger Hamick's 1959 Chevy Pickup

Plus, I met, Bill Cline, the NSRA West Virginia state street rod safety inspector, who let me shoot his mint 1935 Ford street rod with Bill Kinney (our Barris look-a-like) standing next to it. Then I met and drooled on Jerry & Judy Seccuro’s award winning 1949 chopped Lincoln custom. I did it so long that they let me take the liberty of having car hops; “Renae & Morgan” pose with it. Next up,…I met Roger Hamick with his cool 1959 Chevy truck and talked another of the awesome car hop’s named “Tabatha” into posing in 1950′s style attire, next to Roger’s truck.

Bill Kenney's 1935 Ford Street Rod

There were so many movers and shakers there its mind boggling. I met Larry Bailey and his ultra nice wife there too. He’s the president of the West Virginia Motorsports Council! Plus, I’ve got to mention meeting the personable truck stop manager, a raft of the local police, business owners, a bunch of friends forever Tri Chevy guys and their wives, and Chris with his 1918 T-Roadster pickup, which he drove to the event! A bitchin’ 1954 Chevy and its owner, a solid lifted Mustang owner. Old Scooter got tears in his eyes when I heard him drive in. No one any more has or understands “solids”. Hell, I even saw a custom that knew enough to be “dragging” a plaque! The president of the COOL CAR CLUB (my name for them) that came up to me and told me to KISS HIS A@#! Turns out he was wearing a fake plastic/rubber bare butt under his Charlie Sheen bowling shirt tails. Until then I was wondering just what I had done to tick him off? Boy, he and his club fooled me. I met so many fine people with their cars and a large number of civilians (non-car people) that so enjoyed The Auto Round-Up’s 1st Cruise-In! Man, you have to be there next year!
