Auto Round-Up’s Cruise-In

Auto Round-Up’s Cruise-In will be held on Sat., Aug. 13 at the Jane Lew Truck Stop (soon to be the Robin’s Nest Travel Center). The event will help raise funds which will be split between a local child who needs cancer treatment and the Jane Lew Elementary School. Auto Round-Up Publications, Inc. and the Jane Lew Truck Stop (soon to be Robin’s Nest Travel Center) will co-host and co-sponsor the classic car cruise.
So far, car clubs from Weston, Elkins, Moundsville, Lexington, KY, Washington, PA, and Pittsburgh, PA have announced that they will be attending the cruise. “We are seeing commitments from surrounding areas and bordering states, everything is coming together for this event as planned” said an excited Shaun Smith who is the Assistant Publisher of Auto Round-Up Publications.
The event is slated to kick off at 8 a.m. and last until 8 p.m., which is uncharacteristic for a cruise-type old car event. Usually, car shows are held all day and cruises at night. However, with the central location being held right off of the interstate for this outing, car clubs are expected to be in and out of the town of Jane Lew all day and night. “This is an unusual event, but who says we can’t have it everyone’s way?” expressed Smith.
The cruise is free to attend and free to show your antique or classic car, street rod, muscle car, antique or classic pickup truck, rat rod, or bike. You can cruise in with the Auto Round-Up Team and enjoy some good oldies music while girls offer curb service–50′s style for the old cars! There will be a 25% discount for restaurant meals for all families who bring their old cars. Free soda and coffee will also be offered to all cruisers who register for the event.
Hot dogs and fresh roasted peanuts will be sold to help raise funds for charity in addition to prize raffles and a grand finale 50/50 raffle drawing which will highlight the show at the end of the day (winner takes half!).
Founder, President, and Publisher Ron Smith will be attending the event and available inside the restaurant for interaction and discussion throughout the show. Ron Smith’s wife, Sharon Smith, who owns and operates The Hair Designer will also be present.
Popular columnist Scott Strenzel, aka “Scooter” from Scooter’s Garage from Michigan will also be present helping to man the Auto Round-Up booth as well as share memorable old car stories of the 50’s and 60’s. Autographs and photo shoots will be available for this show.
The Jane Lew Town Council has shown their support and was kept updated by Smith leading up to the event at the town hall meetings. “Bringing business into Lewis County, most notably the Jane Lew area, and especially by existing businesses, is a definite win-win situation for all,” said Smith.
The Weston Police Reserves has also shown their support and will be helping direct traffic during the day. There will be a total of five police reserves on hand throughout the day to help maintain safety and keep a constant flow of traffic. This type of support deserves respect and is worthy of considerable recognition. “We like to help out with worthy causes and be available for those that give back to the community for such events like this,” stated Randy Bush of the Reserves.
Local hotels, including the Comfort Inn, Super 8, the Holiday Inn & Suites and the Plantation Inn & Suites in Weston and Jane Lew have shown their support as sponsors of the event.
Local newspaper, television, and radio coverage is expected for the cruise.
An enthused David Gonzales of the travel center said, “You won’t want to miss out on a great day of cool classic cars, muscle cars, street rods, and motorcycles!”
Gonzales further commented, “We want to help the community in our neighborhood as much as possible, while bringing awareness to visitors and guests alike of our nostalgic West Virginia history.” Shaun Smith of Auto Round-Up added, “This is a great opportunity to not only have a great outing with the local community, but help bring in some interest from surrounding states to our great region.”
A DJ will be at the cruise all day grooving to some good old 50’s and 60’s tunes as prize raffles and drawings will be held on the hour throughout the show. A great DJ is a key to the success of any event, especially one like this.
Also featured will be a “Meet The Artist Day” in which Rachel Lee Smith will be displaying her acrylic painting artwork for all to see. These paintings will be shown inside the convenient store and Rachel Lee’s artwork will be available for purchase. Rachel Lee will also be present painting on her easel. Rachel Lee plans to auction off one painting for the charity cause. Her paintings will also be shown in an art gallery at the Stonewall Jackson Jubilee to be held in September. “This is a castle in the sky,” said an intuitive Rachel Lee, “This is my dream come true unraveling before me.”
